Longevity Medications

LONGEVITY & HEALTHSPAN SPECIALIST

While no medication is going to help you live forever, there are prescription medications that can be used off-label under the care of a physician to reduce risk of disease, improve overall health, and even potentially extend life. Some of those medications include rapamycin, semaglutide, tirzepatide and metformin, along with a multitude of non-prescription medications for longevity and healthspan applications.

Everest Health Partners maintains a HIPAA-compliant client registry to monitor outcomes in relation to various aspects of the Methuselah Protocol™ to ensure safety, efficacy, validity, and to optimize individualized care on an ongoing basis. Use for scientific study and publishing is entirely at the discretion of clients.

We assist our patients to navigate the many challenges and barriers to sourcing and obtaining longevity medications, both prescription and non-prescription.

The field of non-prescription medications along with its confusing universe of possibilities is challenging even for trained professionals. Add to that the questionable veracity of the many of the manufacturers and their products. We do the research to identify the safest and most effective options backed by the latest research and personalize a regimen adapted to n your goals, your health, and your background.

What is rapamycin?

Rapamycin, also known as sirolimus, is a medication that has been used for various medical purposes, including as an immunosuppressant to prevent organ rejection in transplant recipients. It works by inhibiting the mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) pathway, which plays a role in cell growth, proliferation, and survival.

In recent years, rapamycin has gained attention for its potential anti-aging properties. Rapamycin is often used off-label for its potential anti-aging effects by inhibiting the mTOR pathway, which plays a role in cell growth and metabolism. Some studies suggest that rapamycin can extend lifespan and delay age-related diseases in animal models. At Everest Health, we believe this medication offers alternative benefits other than from its intended use. We conduct expanded physicals with extensive lab screening in order to ensure safety and efficacy when prescribing longevity medications.

What is semaglutide?

Semaglutide is a medication used to treat type 2 diabetes. It belongs to a class of drugs called GLP-1 receptor agonists, which work by increasing insulin secretion, reducing glucagon secretion, and slowing gastric emptying, leading to better blood sugar control. In addition to its use in diabetes, semaglutide has also been approved for the treatment of obesity and used to enhance longevity. It is administered as an injection once a week in office or sent directly to your home.

What is tirzepatide?

Tirzepatide is a medication used to treat type 2 diabetes, similar to semaglutide. It is a dual glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP) and glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist. This means it helps regulate blood sugar levels by stimulating the release of insulin and reducing the production of glucagon, a hormone that raises blood sugar levels. In addition to its use in diabetes, tirzepatide has also been approved for the treatment of obesity. It is administered as an injection once a week in office or sent directly to your home.

What is metformin?

Metformin is a medication primarily used to treat type 2 diabetes by lowering blood sugar levels. It works by reducing glucose production in the liver and improving insulin sensitivity in the body.

While not officially approved for weight loss, metformin may be prescribed off-label to help with weight management; particularly in individuals with insulin resistance or prediabetes. Metformin may help with weight loss by reducing appetite, decreasing the absorption of calories from food, and improving the body's ability to use insulin effectively, which can lead to reduced fat storage. It is typically used in conjunction with diet and exercise for weight loss purposes.

What are senolytics?

Senolytics are a class of drugs that target and eliminate senescent cells, which are cells that have stopped dividing and accumulate with age. These cells can contribute to inflammation and the progression of age-related diseases. Senolytics work by inducing apoptosis, or programmed cell death, specifically in senescent cells.

In the context of longevity, senolytics are being studied for their potential to extend lifespan and improve healthspan by reducing the burden of senescent cells in the body. By clearing these cells, senolytics may help delay or prevent age-related diseases such as cardiovascular disease, osteoarthritis, and neurodegenerative disorders.
